Eco-Friendly Ways to Get to Your Next Weekend Getaway

Getting around when you don’t have your own car can be a bit challenging. It can be even more challenging when you don’t live in a metropolitan area with access to an intricate and reliable public transportation system either!

If you live out in a suburban area, your options for getting around when you don’t have wheels are not that many. Sure, you can hire a taxi or a private car service via traditional methods but why on earth would you want to do that?

With the advances in technology that are available to everyone with a smartphone in hand, your next ride is as close to you as you download the latest rideshareapps.

Carpools & Shared Rides

Let’s say you are planning aweekend getaway trip with your girlfriends. Ridesharing or carpooling is a fun and interactive way to get your friends together and enjoy getting to your destination as much as spending time at your actual destination.

Ridesharing or modern day carpooling is a great way to get to your next weekend travel destination. This works beautifully if you plan weekends away with friends and family monthly or however often you get the chance.

Alternating driving is great because everyone gets to contribute while the others relax and vice versa. Sharing the responsibility of driving also cuts down on spending as you can all split the costs of fuel, tolls and parking once you get wherever it is that you are going.

You can also feel good about doing your small part for the environment. It may seem like a drop in the bucket but even the smallest gestures, actions and changes can have a positive impact not only on the environment but on those around you.

Trains

If your weekend getaway is going to be taking you a bit farther off than anyone is willing to drive you may want to consider taking a train. Of course, your costs and timetables will all depend on where you are travelling from to where you are travelling to but trains are usually an economical way to travel.

If you have plans to travel through Europe, travelling by trainis an amazing experience. The benefits to travelling by train in Europe are many. You get time to sit back and take in the sights as you travel from one city to the next.

If you are travelling through Eurozone countries, there is less to deal with at country border crossings not to mention the fact that you don’t have to take off your shoes or go through airport type security when traveling by rail.

When travelling by train you can truly see the country side, and the land that you are travelling through, in a way that other modes of travel just can’t give you. Travel by train is also much more eco-friendly than other modes of travel and is usually much more economical as well.

Happy Trails!

I think ride sharing sounds like a great idea, would you give it a go?

I find trains therapeutic sometimes as well as the fact there is no traffic. The lack of signal can be annoying but it's a good chance to read a book/newspaper or just put your feet up. Had a bit of a nightmare coming back from Sheffield by train last week but it worked out okay in the end after there was a fire by the track in London.
